UFC 209: MMA to return to New York at Barclays Center in February
Before the UFC officially makes its New York City debut on Saturday with UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden, the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion already has its next trip to the big city planned.
The UFC will return on Feb. 11, 2017, bringing UFC 209 to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a pay-per-view event. The announcement was made Wednesday night on Fox Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight.”
No fights were announced by UFC president Dana White.
During lobbying efforts in recent years, then-UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta promised legislators four fights across New York State in the first year of legalization.
The 19-year ban on professional MMA was overturned last March, and it became legal in September after the New York State Athletic Commission approved guidelines and regulations.
UFC 209 would be the third fight card in New York since the ban was lifted. The first being UFC 205 this Saturday, and the second is UFC Fight Night 102 in Albany on Dec. 9.
